Obituary

Photo of Margaret on January 14, 2023, standing on Antarctica. She has a yellow parka, a pink hat, and a big smile.

Margaret Hart McGrath, after completing a trip to Antarctica, died, in Ushuaia, Argentina, on January 27, 2023, at the age of 68, from complications of recently-diagnosed pancreatic cancer.

An alumna of Wellesley College and of Harvard Business School, her career included time working at the Ford Motor Company and at PPG Industries.

In retirement, Margaret was active in many civic organizations, particularly the American Association of University Women and the League of Women Voters, both in Pittsburgh and in Florida. She cherished time with her far-flung family and the leisurely pleasures of the garden.

Born in Detroit, MI, Margaret lived in Rochester, NY; São Paulo, Brazil; Mexico City, Mexico; and Toronto, Canada, before settling in Pittsburgh, PA, for 16 years. She moved to Lighthouse Point, FL, full-time in 2016 to care for her parents, the late Frank and Mary Hart of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.

Margaret is survived by her husband of 33 years, Edward McGrath; their children, Philip and Terry; and her sister Susan Hart-White (Richard), as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and beloved friends. Her sister Ann Ramish (Timothy) predeceased her, as did their parents.

She is dearly missed.
